Why I Don't Dress like Kpop Stars

I'm comfy in my warm flannel ^.^ |
Hello Kstylists, on our last poll, it seems like a bunch of people (like 70% of you) wanted to know about our personal style. So here's mine.
I osculate between relaxed, rustic rebel and structured, button downs and blazers, city chic. I know, a bit odd consider I blog about Kpop style, but I guess at heart I'm a bit more alternative than hip-hop/pop.
Why don't I dress how Kpop stars dress?
1) First off all, finances. It's no secret that Korean celebrities, or, more often, their stylists, spend big bucks on designer frocks. While I could find knock offs --and I have bought some in the past-- the quality would suffer.

2) I prefer comfy-cozy or sophisticated-sexy. What I find attractive is slightly different than the majority of Kpop. I like two polar ends of fashion: the I-just-want-to-be-comfortable look or the I-am-classy-and-hot-and-can't-be-stopped look. Both of these don't find their ways into Kpop music videos very often. Idols tend to be dressed in ridiculously layered, bright pieces that either accentuate their aegyo or their sex-appeal. And with good reason...their fashion is a HUGE part of retaining a loyal fanbase and attracting new fans to not only their music, but their image. However, the majority of the time when I wake up in the morning, I am not looking to impress a crowd of adoring fans. And just from personal preference, I gravitate toward a cooler, darker, more muted color palette. As far as showing skin? I'm not against it, but I generally wear long pants or sweaters, so it's not something that happens often.

2NE1 Adidas Style |
I guess, in a way, I've let my pre-conceived notions of who I am determine what I wear. I love heels, but I don't wear them often, no matter how many I own. Dresses are cute, but I always think I'm not the kind of girl who could pull them off. Don't be like me! Experiment, experiment, experiment. If you find you like something, keep it. If you find you don't like something, well, at least you learned a little bit more about your own style. And style is a very important part of who we are as people.
What's your style like? Either tell us in the comments below, or send us a picture here. I'm really hoping I get to see some of what you guys like to wear!!

Im cr. High heels and hanboks, YG
I have to admit that it's sorta disappointing to see that the writers here don't dress like kpop stars.. How about the rest of the writers will there be any other writers doing this segment ?
ReplyDeleteI mean no offense by it!! Hope I didn't come across as offensive, it's just.. With writing for this site one would think you dressed different from the average Joe, anyway, I look forward to seeing Eliza and Lyn post their personal style!
DeleteI'm not offended!! Really, I'm quite boring unless I'm going to events and such. I think the craziest outfit I wore recently was a zebra sequined skirt with a black one-piece leotard thing that was kind of see-through and then a cropped red leather jacket and, of course, high heels. But that was or a special event.
DeleteWould you like to see our dressed up fashion? I just posted on my casual, every-day stuff. I think event clothing is much more interesting for anyone. You guys an definitely submit formal outfits to us as well. I love just looking at people's style!
I wish I could dress like a Kpop star but everything you've written is so relatable for me! *-* I try to take inspiration from artists but I could never pull off the outfits they wear(:
ReplyDeleteI will also add that I like your style, I especially like the distressed shorts ~ they're really cool^^ x
Please do!
ReplyDeleteI'd would like to see yours. But mine...is sooooo casual...
ReplyDeleteFor example, I went to get a haircut today. I wore a gray sweatshirt on a gray tee with gray pants with black sneakers. I didn't realize until I got home...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see all of your personal styles haha, it seems like everyone is so different, combined with lifestyle influences and the different kpop groups we derive inspiration from..
ReplyDeleteMy style is also casual so don't worry Maria :D ....maybe we should do 3 photos of our favorite outfits? ....I'd love to see your style also Lyn :)
ReplyDeleteI think we're all have different styles. it would be so much much fun to see all of us comes together to show off our individual style. :)
ReplyDeletei think it'd be interesting if all the writers did do a post like this!!
ReplyDeletehhmmm...i don't dress like kpop idols cos they're really out there and attention-grabbing and the last thing i want is attention on me! but anyway of course i love their style!! i do get a bit of inspiration from them and stuff but i don't actually dress like them if that makes sense!
hahaha funny story but after i got one of my friends into kpop, when i arrived at college she said i dress just like an idol, and i was so shocked at the comment. i said 'but....this is how i always dress...' i mean i literally did dress how i usually wear, i most likely even wore tat same outfit before....
i'm not trying to make myself seem like a dress awesome!! cos i don't! i just wear what i think look together!!
some of my friends think i dress childish ahaha!!
also i don't have a particular style...i can one day wear something casual, another day smart, steampunk influenced, dark/rock, vintage, colourful and so on! but they all have my own sort of 'twist'(?) on it!! especially having a hoodie on in nearly all of my outfits!!
I'd also like to see everyone's style. I think that's a good idea, Eliza. Maybe we could do 1 casual outfit, 1 work outfit, and 1 dressy outfit? Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you showed us your own style; it shows how relatable you are to us readers!
ReplyDeleteK-Pop stars' attire is, as you said, often expensive and quite literally overdone for the sake of their fans, so for regular people it's very hard to make flashy outfits not look too costume-y. But a lot of their stuff is great for everyday-outfit inspiration, to give things a bit of a boost.
I love your style, btw :D It looks so comfy :3 My friends say my style is mostly urban prep/preppy chic or something like that, so it's interesting to see someone who can pull off a comfortable look far better than me. And you're really pretty~~ haha
The other writers on this site should do a personal post like this one! I want to see how fashionable everyone is in their own way :)
Haha, thank you for your support and compliments >.<! I definitely think the others writers should show you all how they dress. I'm sure they're more stylish than I am ^.^.
Deletewow lauren you look great! i like your style very mellow grunge :) i miss writing for kworldstyle tho....
ReplyDelete- mitch <3
Aw mitch, you're nice. We miss you too! Glad to see it looks like you're doing well on kstyledeconstructed ^.^
DeleteMakes sense. I think that a blending of the two can be good. Kind of like SNSD of 4minute's airport fashion.
ReplyDeleteSehr schöner Style, das steht dir alles so gut.
