Since the past summer of 2014, I noticed a K-pop fashion trend where female performers are wearing crop tops that have text or designs on the waistbands.  Check out some of the examples below:

4Minute's Gayoon in "Crazy" MV

I think it adds a unique touch to an otherwise plain crop top. In case you want a crop top like this, I have made some affordable finds that you may just click on to take a closer look.
What do you think of the trend? Where else have you seen someone wear this?

Kpop Fashion Trend: Square Print Shirts

Each store has a different name for this design so I made up the term in the title but once you see the following images you'll know what I'm talking about. Square print shirts have been around for a bit but around last season and this season is when it became popular (To the nerds out there, yes some of the prints are technically rectangles). If you ask me, it's not a bad trend since it can be printed on anything. It really depends on the content of the square, like what it says or what it has an image of. Most importantly, it depends on how it fits with the rest of the outfit. This trend is on the print/graphics side, which some people don't consider as fashion.

Opening Ceremony was one of the first noticeable brands to have the square block design. A few days ago we posted on T-ara's Soyeon wearing Opening Ceremony with the block print. Many brands like to include text inside the blocks.

She also wore a T-shirt from Zara with the rectangle print.

We also posted f(x)'s Krystal wearing Arche with the same concept. I really like the black against the pale pink!

Arche's sub-brand Arche Reve came out with a bunch of square print designs. They took it to the next level and used glitter and/or sequins for their squares.

Just to further prove my point, while I was making this post one of my friends passed by and she graciously agreed to let me snap a picture of her. Doesn't she look so cool? She is definitely trendy.

The square print has also appeared on the back of shirts. Do you recognize this design?

It's from Nohant. We posted K-pop celebrities like Gikwang, Yunho, and Taeyong wearing this clever text design.

I'd like to end the post with shiny (sorry not SHINee) and patterned squares from Starstyling because who doesn't like looking at their stuff. Enjoy the visuals!

Warning: Image heavy
For the past few months (and years), K-pop idols have been increasingly wearing harnesses for performances. They come in so many styles that when all members in a group wear them, they look coordinated without being dressed exactly the same. The first major appearances have been spotted in 2012 and spiked in popularity in 2013 and is still continuing this year. Here are some more Kpop idols wearing them:
EXO
Miss A
INFINITE
f(x)
SNSD's Hyoyeon

Harnesses, for practical purposes, are used for security whether it's for rock-climbing, bungee-jumping, or keeping your child from running away. In the K-pop scene however, it seems to only serve the purpose of aesthetics. The only thing I can think of where harnesses can be useful as a performer is to keep an idol's loose top from flying off, like f(x)'s Sulli in Rum Pum Pum Pum.

Even Korean fashion designers like Kwak Hyun Joo have harness-inspired designs, as can be seen in her S/S 2014 collection.

What do you think of this trend? If you want to imitate your idols and get the look, you can check out a pretty nice (but expensive) collection of harnesses at Zana Bayne. For more affordable options, you can check out Free People or Etsy.

Look at how fashionable these ducks are

Kpop Fashion Trend Fall 2013: Plaid

Warning: Image Heavy

Plaid, plaid, plaid it's everywhere!

Let's not get technical. Typically people just associate the crisscrossing of thick lines to be plaid. Actually this type of pattern can be the following: plaid, tartan, gingham, checkered, check or madras. There are even more terms, but an everyday person's typical view of plaid is all of these things in a grouping (sometimes without gingham). Stylists may be different, but for a simpler sake, we'll just assume everything here is plaid.

Let's say it all started with f(x)'s Rum Pum Pum Pum comeback in late summer. After that, pushBUTTON and Steve J and Yoni P's Fall/Winter 2013 collection blew up with their plaid patterns. Now, it's the go to pattern for idol groups for customized individuality during performances.

Honestly, there are so many more pictures of anyone and everyone. Since it's still 2013, there will be many more stars that will wear "plaid".

Kdramas:

Krystal's character also wore a lot of plaid.

If you want to own a piece of plaid clothing,  go to your nearest store. Mostly likely, they will have something plaid. If not go to your nearest Forever 21, Topshop or Zara store.

Not only are K-pop stars embracing this pattern for the fall, here's some brands to check out: TOPSHOP, Moschino, McQ by Alexander McQueen, Suno, Lucky Chouette, pushBUTTON and more! They are the one who started it all. After all, trends are started on the runway (oh…subjective).
